I see a nice deal on the Jessops website so I thought I would pop down to my local shop to buy it, so Saturday morning I walk through the door and start talking to the sales chap who asked me if I know what I wanted, and I said yes I would like the “Bird watching bundle” he then gives me a blank look and tells me that he is unaware of this bundle. It is at this point that I get my smart phone out go the the Jessops web site and show him the bundle and his response just floored me.

This was the conversation:

Sales chap: That is an online deal sir, can’t help you.

Me: The webpage tells me that I can collect in store, so here I am.

Sales chap: You need to reserve it first.

Me: Why?

Sales chap: It is an online deal only.

Me: But I come to you to pick it up & pay for it in the shop?

Sales chap: Yes.

Me: So if I order this on my phone while standing in front of you I can have the deal?

Sales chap: Yes.

Me: So you will not sell it to me?

Sales chap: No.

Me: Is this not a little silly?

Sales chap: No.

Me: What?

Sales chap: No it is not silly, you have the ability to do what is required you are just unwilling to do it, I
see no reason to bent the rules.

Me: Are you taking the rip?

Sales chap: No.

Me: Are you sure?

Sales chap: Yes.

Me: I will tell you what; I no longer want to shop with you as your customer service is so far beyond a joke.

Sales chap: Ok, is there any other way I can help you?

Me: No.

Now I understand that there are retail sellers that deal exclusively on the internet and there are those who have shops but when you have both with the ability to pick up your order insisting that the customer (the one with the money) follow a stupid process to buy a product then you are no doing yourself any favours.

It is worth putting your name to it if you are interested in the sport of pistol shooting.

.22 pistol petition

I am running an online petition to reclassify .22 pistols as Section 1 firearms, and am seeking as many signatures from supporters of all shooting disciplines involved in our sport. The petition is being hosted on the Government ePetition website – http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/360

I would be grateful if you can sign this, and also pass it onto as many people as you can, either shooters in your club or friends and family. Once completed, you will receive an email confirming your details, you must click the link in the email to activate your signature.

I am confident this petition can make a difference, it is being followed closely by other campaigners who are in discussion with the Home Office.

After reading about the cost for firearms licencing on theyworkforyou.com I was interested to read that then ACPO Firearms and Explosives Licensing Working Group have put the true cost at £189 for a new certificate and £106 for a renewal they do not comment on a non one to one variation.

And this got me to thinking about the cost & value of the FAC, the cost of an FAC works out at £10 for the first 5 years and £8 for each year after that (based on the renewal fees) for that the police are required to do all they do keeping the licencing system up to date and the public safe and I think that this is not a bad price and when you think about it it’s not a surprise that it takes 12 – 15 weeks to get any paperwork out of my local force around renewal time or variation time.

I am guessing that the point of the current review is to put the true costs onto the people who are using the service so if the costs are real we could see the costs of the FAC going up by quite a big jump.

£50 upto £189 and £40 upto £106.

And this brings me to the question, how much would you pay for an FAC? When you think an FAC lasts for 5 years a cost of £37.80 per year for the first 5 years and them a cost of £21.20 for other years over 5 does not look like too much.

No will like the price hike but it may be on the way, if we could get the 12 – 15 week turn around down to a few days (like it should be) is this a price worth paying?

Will this be seen as an attack on shooters or just a price hike that brings the price we pay up to date with the cost of the service?

It will be interesting to see how this one go’s and what others have to say about it.

He has been a fantastic ambassador for shooting being awarded an OBE for becoming the nation’s most prolific Commonwealth Games competitor in any sport he has 17 medals including 9 golds and has achieved the qualifying score for free pistol but he will not be put on the team.

Anyone would think that a good news story with a man in shooting is not a good thing, then again I am sure that is just a conspiracy

The person who was writing the article from the point of view of someone who can see the picture of death by a thousand cuts and the united we stand mentality that is sadly lacking in the shooting world.

Take a read of what Jason Westlake had to say and replace the words chopper & next segment with self loading rifles (1988) & pistol (1997) and you will see where I am coming from.

I am not a fan of choppers as I like large touring bikes (and have one) but I would not want to see them banned and I will speak out with the people who do not want them banned, perhaps the biking world can look to the shooting world for a text book example of what not to do, after all we where and are still not united and as a result it will not be too long before we can no longer shoot if some get there way.
