Resurrect The Sport

Resurrect The Sport: Things to do

So what can you do to resurrect the sport?

Well the first thing you can do is to write to your MP and ask him to support the Olympic sport of pistol shooting and asking him what he / she is doing to help return this sport to the UK.

So who is your MP?
Considering your MP is your spokesman/woman in the Houses of Parliament I am surprised how many people do not know who their MP is. If you fall in to this category don’t worry you are not alone. To find out who you MP is please visit this site www.theyworkforyou.com type in your post code and you will be given a profile about your MP, who they are, what party they belong to, what their voting record it.

How do I get in touch with my MP?
Once you know whom you are talking to you can get in touch with them in a number of ways.

You can write to them via Parliament and pop the letter in the post.

You can use this service to send them a fax www.writetothem.com

If you are lucky you will be able to email them but you will need to look for their email addresses.

What do I say?
I am not a believer in form letters and I think that you should use your own words.

It may be worth putting in a few points:

  • How will your MP be supporting the Olympic sport of pistol shooting in his constituency?

  • How will your MP representing you one of his constituents in getting back the ability to participate this Olympic sport?

  • Remind your MP of how succesful an event the last British Commonwealth Games hosted in the United Kingdom were. The pistol shooting was undertaken in an extremely safe and professional way.

  • Ask you MP how he/she intends to assure that those on the Mainland of the United Kingdom, will be able to compete on completely equal terms for selection to the Great British Pistol Shooting Squad as your fellow countrymen in the Northern Island, Isle of Jersey, Isle of Guernsy, Isle of Man whom have not been banned from pistol shooting.

  • Remind your MP that Home Office figures since 1997 show clearly that the Firearms Amendment Act of 1997 has ha no impact on illegal use of firearms. And that their is no direct link to the dedication of British Sporting Shooters to those actions of the criminal fraternity.

  • Ask your MP to discover exactly what the government is doing to uphold its obligation to education of the youth and Legacy for Pistol Shooting under the Olympic Charter, ask where the shooting facilities will be placed in the Country and how they will be used once the Olympics has passed

What letter format should I use?
